I first learned about you in a parking lot. The news came spilling out from your mama the moment we were in the same breathing space. Oh, my inside self said, my world is about to re-arrange.
Months later, I waited in a hospital waiting room at 4 am with my whole heart in my hands. You arrived that morning and I remember thinking mostly how beautiful your mama looked, sitting in the hospital bed, holding you. How she became the most her as your mom.
Your mom is one of my life's greatest heroes, E. Someday, when you're older, I'll tell you more about why.
For now, all you need to know, is that you hit the jackpot. Your mama & daddy are the best of the best. All time favorites. 10/10.
And you've got a love network 3 million times the size of your tiny, precious, 11 month old body. You'll see.
Here's the thing, I live on the other side of the country now. Seattle, Washington. You can come visit whenever you want. But until you do, I'm going to write you letters, and we're going to keep facetiming while you eat pancakes with your family, and I'll keep spending every minute I can with you when I'm on your side of the world.
I got to visit your new house the other day. It's beautiful, and I can't wait to see you make a mess of it. I can't wait to see you & your someday siblings color on the walls and do all sorts of things you probably shouldn't do.
I told your mama that the house feels like it's always be your family's, and it does.
And when I visited your family, I got to take pictures. I LOVE taking pictures, Elliott. And what I love even more is getting to take pictures of really big, really important things. Like you. Especially you, one month before you turn one.
Elliott, this is where you are right now. You are 11 months old. Your family loves you like wildfire. You are kind of standing, not quite walking, and dangerously cute. You like to pretend to play soccer, try to put the cat toys in your mouth, and you have the best laugh in the world. You have a brand new house, a sneaky orange cat, and a lot of love all around you.
There is so much you are going to become. So much you already are. It's amazing to me, to see how right I was, that day in the parking lot. How my whole world re-arranged. Your mama is my best friend, and she's brought a million gifts into my life since we met, so many years ago. I gotta say though, munchkin, you might be the best of them all.
You are so loved.
Your Fairy Godmother,
